Three Things Learned, the Rest WIP(-ish)
(This post is inspired by one of my favourite blogs, yesandyes.org.)
1. "Don't allow outside sources to determine your self-esteem." ~ Sarah Von Bargen, yesandyes.
2. Treat kids with respect. Treat others with respect without first thinking, "Is this person important?"
3. Probably you should wait for the sale. Do you really want these shoes and have been looking for them for a long time? If yes, get them now. If they're just something that you like, and they won't make you lose any sleep if they're sold out, wait for the sale. Don't worry about them being sold out, anyway. There will always be new designs that you'll love in the future.
4. But if you find a top or cardigan that you really, really like -- buy three.
5. Be consistent. Be consistently good. Do it every day. Do it every week: building skills for your work or hobbies, maintaining good relationships with your loved ones, taking care of your health, building wealth.
6. The best way to eat healthily is by cooking at home. You'll probably save some money too.
7. Ask. Ask for business transactions from clients. Ask if you don't understand and want to. Ask the shoe store to check if they have the size that you want in their other outlet.
8. "... do whatever you do for no reason other than you love it and believe in its importance... The fulfilling life, the distinctive life, the relevant life is an achievement..." ~ David McCullough Jr.
9. Earning a living by doing things that you love will save you on therapy.
10. Learning to speak better pays off with work and life.
11. Don't end a meeting or conversation with your loved ones on an angry note. Bury that ego.
12. Do not hold on to stuff that you no longer use or stuff that reminds you of bad memories. Give away, sell, throw away -- that's one baggage off your shoulders.
13. Be proud of your age, personality, interests, values and flaws. Even if they don't fit other people's standards and expectations. Regardless of how different you are.
14. Be kind. It's good for the soul.
15. It might not be easy, but facing and solving your problems will give you a huge peace of mind.
16. If you don't feel motivated doing something that you are supposed to do tomorrow, don't decide about not doing it yet. Wait until tomorrow morning. You'd most probably feel differently by then. Or you can just kick yourself out of the bed.
17. Don't worry about keep buying the same type of clothes over the years. It's called style. But take the year you are in and age you are at into consideration.
18. Sometimes staying quiet and staying away is all you have to do. You don't have to explain or open a Pandora's box. You get to avoid hurting other people's feelings and unnecessary drama too.
19. The little things make a difference in your cooking: daun kunyit in ayam masak merah, asam keping in your sambal sardin, ginger, herbs, lemongrass. (The time I discovered this, I felt like I'd discovered magic.)
20. Learn to do mental maths. At the very least, you'll look smarter.
21. Don't create unnecessary debt.
22. Don't gossip.
23. It might take years before your ideas are accepted. Or go out of style.
24. Work hard and make as much money as you want, but you don't have to spend it all or measure your worth with it. Your worth is equal to your life values.
25. Success and humility are a great combination.
26. Check your zipper before leaving the fitting room.
27. It's ok to change your mind, redo your work, quit a social media account, be a kinder person or grow to like something new.
28.
29. Encouragement to move forward is more effective and useful than dwelling on what went wrong.
30. It's not all about you. Take a step back. Share. Listen. Volunteer.
31. Life may be hard for others (too). Go easy with the judging.
32. Stop going out with people who order tons, do not pay or always pay less, but brag about their 5-digit income at the same time.
33. Staying in shape makes clothes fit better and life easier.
34. Many people find the idea of volunteering and doing charity work... cool. Start them at home. Start with your own family. I don't mean nepotism. I mean help clean the dishes and make the bed.
35. Never ask about a woman's childbirth process just to make a conversation. Never.
(OMG learning is easy, I can come up with 400!)
