I'll Grow Up Tomorrow

A friend from the past just called. The conversation was short, rushed and awkward. The call ended, and I can't describe how relieved I felt. Thirty seconds later, a second call came in. I almost fell off my chair. I wanted to throw my phone out of the window and scream, knowing what's coming -- that we should meet up. 1) I can pretend that I don't see the call and put the phone on silent mode, never picking it up again -- which is stupid. 2) I can pick it up, knowing that I'm weak and will never be able to say no. We'll meet up, and I'll suffer in silent misery. 3) I can pretend that I'm... not well and can only meet up, say... three years from now? I'm not sure which is more stupid. The first one or this one? 4) I can be firm and say no. Can I? Please. I would have more courage to burn my favourite dress than say no for no reason. Two favourite dresses.

Pancakes

(So, that bitter pancake story .) Pancakes, McDonald's especially, are magic. So there was one night two weeks ago, I felt like making pancakes and found a recipe on the internet. Coincidentally, I did have all the ingredients: leftover flour and sodium bicarbonate from my cake adventure last raya, milk, butter etc. The batter turned out creamy and soft and looked promising, but the taste of the pancakes... was not. The right word was 'bitter'. So it has to be the sodium bicarbonate, right? Questions: - What does sodium bicarbonate actually do, anyway? - When they say teaspoon... what do they mean by that exactly? I went on the internet, and about 40 webpages later, got about half the idea. For now, I think I'll go for the tip of the thumb for a tablespoon, and the tip of the index finger for a teaspoon. And I always got confused between baking soda and baking powder. I typed 'sodium bicarbonate bitter' and found this link . Summarizing the a...

Sleep (4)

Image
I've frequently had trouble sleeping these past few weeks. Usually, in the past, it would happen on the night before a work that I was anxious about, but I'm positive that's not the case this time. So I'd lie in bed at midnight, the room would be dark and nice and perfect... and I'd start to worry about world hunger, global warming, Mystic Falls, and the importance of education system reform -- so I'd just have to blink in the dark for an hour. By 1+ I'd usually give up and switch the lights on, looking for something to do. I'd read, switch my PC on, rearrange or clean my shoes, or do some other equally exciting things. 3.25AM Strobe Cream, Prep + Prime I went for years wearing makeup and complaining how it melted by the time I reached my car when leaving the house, until I was recently introduced to these two primers as a makeup base. I haven't tried any other brands' primers yet. 3.59AM How to Make It in America In a ...

While Driving

I don't know whether to laugh or tear those illegal roadside ads with lines such as 'Work from Home, Earn RM8,000 A Week'. The ads further make it sound that all we have to do in the morning is wake up and do some super-quick-and-easy assignments, apparently worth RM8,000 a week, showers optional. Who responds to such ads thinking there's no catch behind them? Who responds to such ads at all? (Someone must have, otherwise they wouldn't be there, right?) Even if it is a legitimate project, working from home or not, don't you think at some point we need to be out there to sell whatever it is we're working on? Maybe we are selling things or services online, but we still have to look for people who are going to pay us the RM8,000 -- our clients, our agents perhaps. We still have to work .
