Tiny Wardrobe

Image
Photo by Lauren Richmond on Unsplash I'm not sure how to use the word minimalism. I suspect I'm more poor* than 'a minimalist' -- small detail -- but I love, love my small wardrobe. On my side of the world right now, the rage is owning as many clothing items as you can, preferably designers, which is fine, somebody needs to stimulate the economy. Owning fewer clothes is not for everyone, but it's probably easier for me because: 1 I don't spend much (*see above). True, you can spend tens of thousands and have few clothing items. But spending less makes it way easier to end up with the same result. 2 I don't see the same people each day at work. 3 I live in a tropical, also fairly conservative, country. I don't need seasonal clothing. I can wear everything in my closet all year long and for the next three years if I want to. A small challenge, however, I dress more conservatively these days, so that does limit my options a little bit....

There Is More Than One Way to Live Life

Image
Photo by Toa Heftiba on Unsplash Go away, people who are trying to make me feel guilty for not doing something that most people do. For the purpose of this post: for not being on WhatsApp. In my mind, I know why I'm not on WhatsApp: 1) lack of privacy is annoying 2) being trapped in so many conversations that I don't want to be in takes so much work, time and patience. I'll text you if there is a need to, or even when I'm just thinking about you, or if I find something funny or something that you'd like. But I won't do it incessantly all day, not even every other day or week. I understand space. I love space! My texts are well spelled, have purpose and are often funny! Ok, some recipients may argue otherwise. Small detail. The point is, I put effort into them. If I want to talk more, I'll call or we can meet up. If I like you, I'd like seeing you in person too. We'll hear each other laugh (well, subject to factors, of course), and we...

Hair

Image
We I used to care very little about what the internet said about my beauty and hair products. To be fair, the internet did not say much either. But I sure was easily bought by advertisements. Oh Bobbi Brown, how nice of you for making me feel like I'm part of you*. Here's my money. (*I'm not. You are still the expensive makeup with excellent branding, and I'm still living with my not-flawless skin and lack of makeup skill.) While I'm still easily bought by advertisements, I want simple everything now: I don't want 10 bottles of hair products that promise everything and do nothing, and I want to spend less. That sounds simple enough if the internet, the "natural" products movement, were not messing up my life. Currently, here's how I'm probably destroying my hair: Flat Iron My hair is long again this year, and I don't want to relax it this time. But since I still need to socialize with humans, I cannot just leave it as it is....

Living Light: Online Accounts

Image
Photo by Kym Ellis on Unsplash I think your life is 'light' if you are on the right track with it. Similar to how I feel about meditation in this post . Everything else -- letting go, trimming, living with less etc -- is secondary. But let's focus on the secondary. _____ I have several e-mails. Two with my real name are for work, people I know and Google Play. And a few others are for social media accounts etc. One of the social media ones receives a lot of spam in recent years, and I'm increasingly bothered by this. So I'm starting to think about where else have I left this e-mail that attracted so much spam. How many online accounts do I have? I was shocked to learn that some people have 50 online accounts. Who are these people? And that was before I found out that some others have hundreds! I can't possibly have that many, right? It still feels a lot by my standard, but I can't possibly have more than 10. So I traced my steps. E-mails; on...

Living Light: Clothes

Image
Photo by Priscilla Du Preez on Unsplash Yes, I'm about to blog about "owning less things", and you're about to roll your eyes with "Oh, here we go, another person announcing how she recently found a light , or fell into a fad, and how it changed her life." You're most probably right. _____ I am not rich (yet), so owning less things is not that hard to do*. But this has become a growing interest of mine: having a small and effective wardrobe, stripping away clothing items that haven't been worn for a long time, and let's admit it, will probably never be worn again no matter how hard I try to convince myself otherwise. (Example: five-year-old top last worn four years ago that I still keep because "I'm just waiting for the right time to wear it again. Plus, it's so preeety!") do not make me happy (anymore). are not really needed / don't have much function / are excess / you know, part of the preparation in cas...
