Challenge: Read a Book

Yeah... it isn't really my favourite activity. Reading isn't that bad. I can read the internet and Twitter all day. Reading books -- unfortunately -- needs effort. According to some legit internet studies, at this rate, my brain is probably losing its rocket-making ability fast. Reading just means ticking a checklist to me, something that I have to do, like going for a run or eating healthy food. Do I enjoy them? Only if I'm out of my mind. But I can force myself not to skip them entirely. I mean, if I don't exercise my brain, how is it going to be fit enough to watch all my favourite TV? My only problem right now is my laziness finding a book that I really like ie I can finish. It has been a while since I last found a book that could hook me all day -...

Challenge: Believe That Everything Is Going to Be More Than Ok

chal·lenge n . 4. A test of one's abilities or resources in a demanding but stimulating undertaking. ~ Thefreedictionary . Lately, I've developed a new talent. No, not the talent to use past tense and present tense correctly (not yet), but the talent to think that things will turn out worse than they actually are. (Thank God,) usually, these things that I put so much worry on don't turn out to be even bad in the end. Example: I found a nice pair of shoes. They were on 10% sale. Ten. Full. Percent. Nice, cheap shoes just warm my heart. But they didn't have my size anymore at the store. My hands turned cold waiting for the sales rep to check for my size in their other outlets*. God I didn't smile at my neighbour this morning. That was bad. There's no way the shop is going to have my size now. Oh dear God, I am so sorry. Please make them have my size. Please, please... Oh no, the person on the other line is taking way too long to check just a pair of s...

Challenge: Watch a Show/Movie Without Reading the Spoilers First -- Suits

chal·lenge n . 4. A test of one's abilities or resources in a demanding but stimulating undertaking. ~ Thefreedictionary . I rarely watch a movie or a TV show, or read a book, without finding out its summary or how it ends first. Those few times that I didn't were because I couldn't find the info on the internet, and those few times were not good. Sometimes I'd fast forward a DVD to a few crucial scenes, then only I'd watch it again from the beginning. It's only important that I find out the whole story before I watch anything. How else would I know if the next two hours are going to be worth it? This, everybody, has saved me from movies that I don't like for 98% of the time. The other 2%, unfortunately, includes Schindler's List, which I could only sit to watch for 30 minutes. (I wanted to quit by the 10th minute but coaxed myself not to. It's a WWII movie, which genre I like, and I heard that e-ve-ryone loves Schindler's List.) You'...

Challenge: Seven Days

chal·lenge n . 4. A test of one's abilities or resources in a demanding but stimulating undertaking. ~ Thefreedictionary . I've been very good with exercising these days. I exercised for eight days in December and only took about three months for the next one which was this week. Oh, how I hate people who "wake up early in the morning and run as part of their lifestyle " right now. But I love tiny thighs and size S dresses too. So here's the challenge: In the next six months, I'm going to exercise for seven days in a row, at least once each month. If I slip, I have to start the seven-day count all over again. The goal is to start a new habit and fit nicely into this particular favourite clothing item again. To be honest, it's only mostly the latter. Realistically, let's not care much about what I do for the rest of 23 days, or if I should exercise twice a week instead. Because for the huge part of surviving inconveniences in my life, I resort...

Challenge: Draw

Image
I definitely did not draw this. Photo by Peter Olexa on Unsplash . chal·lenge n . 4. A test of one's abilities or resources in a demanding but stimulating undertaking. ~ Thefreedictionary . So I tried Illustrator this year and made one and a half drawings. Then I felt like drawing the old-fashioned way. I bought watercolour pencils, a brush, a drawing block and sharpeners(!) for this I-Think-Drawing-Is-in-My-Blood phase project. But every time I thought of starting, my hands froze and I proceeded to have a staring contest with my drawing block. So, my challenge is to start drawing. Deep down, I know I should start with an oval... which I should do a thorough research on because this is obviously the most important step in my drawing career. I have to learn to draw an oval from the best oval drawer out there. Your first oval could make or brea... so I consult YouTube. After another series of internal debates on how this isn't working, and luckily I didn't buy...

Challenge: Saturday Breakfast -- Walk

I didn't have a car until my second year of working. Taking public transport was not a problem to me then. I took public transport for 20 over years of my life. When everyone was driving in uni*, I stayed off campus and took the bus so I could stay in a house and have a room that I liked, and it would be easier for me to get to my part time job** after class. (*I was in a uni where only about 20 people taking the public bus. Thirty if you count the cleaning staff.) (**Want to read about that time I got company walking home ?) But once I bought the car, I felt like my feet needed more rest and my makeup should last for at least two minutes. Which is a waste in another way because when I spent a few months in City X, I walked all the time and my weight was all time low. Ok, it was a different weather. Bu...
