Do Business with Good People

Today I was reminded to choose people I do business with carefully. I've always believed that being independent suits me ok, and I can do a pretty good job sticking up for myself when I have to. This is a free country, governed by the laws. You're a good person, you go by the rules and you enter into a transaction in good faith. There's nothing that you should be scared of, right? Maybe. But there's a reason why people refuse to testify in courts, don't report frauds and ignore a fight they see on the street.

Movies

Thoughts on: 1) Nights in Rodanthe It's a story of two people who meet at an inn in Rodanthe while in the midst of trying to deal with conflicts in their lives. This is your standard romantic drama. What's more important is, the inn is beautiful. I don't mind spending three months a year there. 2) Valkyrie Did you know that there were 15 known assassination attempts made on Hitler? ( Yeah, same. ) The 20th of July plot was said to be the final attempt made by the German resistance. Its failure resulted in thousands of people being executed, including Colonel von Stauffenberg (played by Tom Cruise), one of its key plotters, who was executed by a firing squad on the night of the attempt. Sometimes this is the reason I feel guilty saying "I love war movies." Real people die and suffer because of war. 3) Australia I've never heard of the Stolen Generations before. (The words esky, brekkie and "How are you going" that means "How are you,...

Occasionally, I need Oreos and milk. During these times, I'd dutifully make a quick run (drive) to the nearby supermarket to get just these two items. Apparently, I've been nicknamed 'Oreos' by the supermarket staff because of this. Ugh, don't we have a supermarket-client privilege or something? So now I've decided to go back to the old store that I always went to before this new store was built. When I'm out working, I'm all happy when strangers come up to me and say things like "I always see you around here, who do you have a meeting with? Where are you attached to? What do you do?" I'd be all smile and friendly back and make sure we'll exchange cards before we part ways. But once I'm done with work and driving home, sometimes I love to be left alone after trying to connect to and please people all day (not a complaint, I love making people happy). So when I was at the neighbourhood bank, I cringed when the staff asked, ...

What Do We Do After Breaking Dawn?

Image
(Or Midnight Sun?) I finally bought Twilight the books and finished reading the first one within 24 hours. Couldn't put the book down, nearly died of starvation. I'm glad I watched the movie first, otherwise it would have been hard for me to survive the book: 1) I was never supposed to be into horror or vampire books and movies 2) I often have problems with romance novels 3) I'm not sure how I feel about the lengthy New Vampire 101 in the book and a girl who says "Please don't leave me" on a daily basis. Now, however, I sleep at night holding the book in my arms I can't wait to finish reading the rest of the series. Only that, I still have to work (it's not easy being a mortal I tell ya). I do know, though, in which book Edward leaves Bella; in which book they get back together, get married and have a daughter; and in which book Bella turns into a vampire (oh yes, spoilers). On a second thought, the lengthy New Vampire 101 might have helped h...

Breathe

A bit about last month -- after about a week of staring at the ceiling, I finally got out of the bed and spent the following week... taking care of others, if you can believe that 🤷🏻‍♀️. So I spent the night for one whole week at my sister's place while my brother-in-law was abroad: keeping everyone company, babysitting my nieces, sending them to their tuition classes, making sure they have their dinner, even organizing a tiny picnic party. (My sister's currently taking her degree, her classes are at nights, and it was the exam month. So I was officially The House Manager for a week and would still be at my desk at 9 daily, which, by the way, is about 55 kilometres from their house.) It went well. I think. No, I know they had a good time having me around. They should . (And when I say picnic party, it usually involves no more than six attendees, and the menu is usually what is offered by 7-Eleven and roadside stalls.) (I also spent a couple of hours helping my other s...
