#834 on a Monday

If my motivation level for work had a chart, it usually would shoot off the roof on Mondays -- I'd wake up the earliest, start making plans before I fully open my eyes and be on the go all day. I'd be a different person on Mondays, you wouldn't even recognize me. Tuesdays usually follow what happens on Mondays. If things go smoothly and I'm not distracted by stuff , Tuesdays should be a good workday too. While Fridays -- Fridays are the days I turn into a school kid an hour away from a long-term break. Sometimes I even forget to bring my work bag up to my apartment. I'm positive this year is going to be one of the most interesting years I've ever had. As much as I don't want it to be true, I don't think I'm going on any vacation this year. I went for a couple of short trips in the first half of last year. They were pretty fun. Then, towards the end of the year, I started cancelling plans. It's disappointing, but there's a lot more imp...

Playland

Over the weekend, 1) I tried to transfer a couple of huge files that I have on my PC to another storage drive and failed miserably. So, my PC is running slower and slower. It's ancient. I bought it from an antique store. 2) I started reading another addictive, every-working-girl-must-read blog, Working Girl ... ... from which I learned about polyvore.com! Why didn't I know about this site sooner? Every reason I watch Project Runway and played Jojo's Fashion Show is on Polyvore: clothes -- pretty, pretty clothes. I couldn't help but spend the next few days after that staring looking at people and thinking, ''How can I polyvore (a verb) this person a new style?"

Parents' Place: Where the Food Is Nice and the Laundry Is Signed, Sealed, Delivered

I'm starving myself today. (There won't be any calculator and calorie spreadsheet very-long-it-could-reach-Nepal today.) I spent the three-day weekend at home (my parents') and gained almost two kilos from that. It was nice that we got to spend time catching up especially with my mother. I noticed she finally managed to sit and talk to us longer than five minutes. Usually, she'd be busy in the kitchen while we, err, would be in the living room, doing some equally important stuff . Don't blame me, you don't want to eat what I cook. So, besides being productive with movies, card games, computer games, and sleeping in (in front of the TV), I helped my mother with some grocery and paint shopping. She's adding another two bedrooms to the house. We'll have eight now... while we're not home that often and usually end up having slumber parties in one room anyway. Ok, I should just bow and say, "Thank you, parents." My father is getting quie...

It Wasn't Caused by Food Poisoning

Doll-bin dropped by my place last Thursday, and we talked for a bit, mostly about the tough economy and how we've been affected so far. I hadn't seen her in a while. A few things have changed (and a few others still haven't) since we last met. I didn't know what was the right thing to say when I learned about her twins' condition. These past few months, each time I feel like I'm at a dead end, when doors are slammed in my face or when I feel people are not acting like they usually do anymore, I feel so dizzy I could puke. Years from now or hopefully sooner, when things get better, maybe then I'll be able to look at these moments again with a laugh. Will it really get better in time ? Here's to good news, I'll make them visit soon.

Slumdog Millionaire

I finally watched Slumdog Millionaire. Don't be mad at me if I say I was expecting more. Maybe I should watch it again. I will watch it again just to make sure. My issue may be with the few things Salim did in the movie that I don't understand why he did them. It was late. I was really sleepy at first but wide awake after the 'Amitabh's helicopter' scene. Seriously, how could anyone sleep after that. Or eat. Less than four hours of sleep last night and a long day today, I could use a nap right now.

Somewhere Over the Rainbow (There's a Pot of Gold?)

One thing I've been trying to learn in recent years is to keep my composure in the midst of tough times or when I'm in a hurry or busy etc. During those times, I'd like to answer each call from the people that I care about with undivided attention and offer them clever solutions or a cheer if they need any. I'm not entirely trying to do this for them; I mainly am doing this for myself. I don't want to accomplish (or let's admit it, usually not accomplish) an assignment at the end of the day, go home and realize that I've just let someone that I care about down a few hours ago. It's easier to be a nice person in a less demanding situation. It takes a more conscious effort when it's otherwise. So here I am, sipping hot tea alone in my room, trying to find peace, staring at my printer which today woke up with yet another sulky mode. In front of me is a pile of my work papers and my PC with a list of materials that is stuck, cannot be printed for tom...
