When No One's Looking

Somehow, some people in this country think if you are in my line of work, you must now be able to afford a [name a stupidly expensive car]. The horror. Of course I don't drive that [stupidly expensive car]. (That explains.) So I'll just avoid talking about how much I make when I'm with clients. I don't lie. I just never get near the subject; when Mr Kind was talking about his well-to-do friend, I just smiled and nodded like a Stepford robot, wondering what's the point of this. So there was this day when I stopped at a red light and saw Mr Kind approaching to cross the street. No bloody way! I've so far managed to avoid such situation, and now Mr Kind was standing right next to my window! I quickly grabbed a piece of paper from the pile of mess on the passenger seat next to me, pretending that I was so engrossed reading it and didn't see him. So I'm kind of sure that he didn't notice me in my car either. I had an appointment with Mr Kind again t...

Favourites

I sort of half-lost an assignment yesterday. My favourite client, Mr Japan, no less. Mr Neighbour, on the other hand, needed only 30 seconds to agree to my proposal. So, losing a client means I need a booster to move on. Like friends, and a haircut. So I drove to BSC in a crawling traffic and texted two friends for roti jala afterwards. I'm positive I could actually reach BSC quicker by walking, but I've never seen anyone walk from Ampang to BSC before, let alone in the rain... With over an hour of driving, it was a relief my usual hairdresser,  Hanc , was in. I love her advice on... Wait, actually why does it matter? Like other people can't cut my hair? (And " my usual" as if she's combing my hair every other day. No. If it wasn't on the paper, she wouldn't even know my name.) She managed to let me know that my current cut (of course, by a cheaper salon) could have been done better. Sure, and you cost a bomb. Half an hour and a-lot-of-mon...

Reality Check

A client insisting on an action that contradicts their goals while insisting on achieving that very same goal is only funny for five seconds. While my clients amuse me ie their so-called advisor with this, I'm amused by my insurance agent. On how she'd tell me that every disease under the sun will lead to heart complications, soon to death, and how every marriage will see the wife left by the husband when the wife is (or even if she's not) crippled or something. She would continue reminding me these, although my signature is already on the dotted line. Thinking about it, I must have amused my clients in some ways too. Like when I suggested how my proposal and I were the answer to his quest. This guy sitting across me drives a car and lives in a home that I can only dream of. His weekly entertainment expenses alone might be more than what I make in a month -- and here I am, trying to give him some advice . Gross.

Cold

I've just found out that I've passed my First Module. Only half expecting it as my only preparation was speed-reading the course material like a bullet train the day before the exam. I'm moving on to the next modules, which means about four months of 12-hour-a-week sleepy weekends. It comes in handy, though, especially when I need an excuse, "Owh, of course, I'd love to attend your cat's second week birthday party. Unfortunately, I have my class this weekend." I caught a cold last week, had three sleepless nights and loved the Actifed, although the drowsy effect only lasted for about an hour. I got another hour from the cough syrup. The closest to getting high I'll ever get. I cancelled a dinner with a friend on Friday that I was positive would drag on for hours, so I could rest and avoid more colds and weeks to recover. But I still had to attend a very long half-sucks meeting (not with clients) Saturday morning (I must have done something really b...
