Shoes

For a while now, I've been thinking that I should revise my Celebrating Others policy. Some things should just end. Ten days from today, Ave is getting married. I was on the phone with her a few days back, talking of the usuals, including some of the life's great mysteries. "I thought I was done attending weddings. But I can't miss yours, can I?" "Haha. Did you watch this Sex and the City episode when Carrie lost her shoes at her friend's baby shower?" I did not. Apparently, Carrie lost her $485 Manolos (the house rules required her to remove her carefully chosen-to-match-the-outfit shoes) at a party thrown by her friend, Kyra. Leaving with no compensation, she wondered if she had somehow made a mistake by choosing her current lifestyle, rather than Kyra's more traditional one. Since she always comes through every time Kyra registers, she thought it was only fair that she turned the tables, so she registered herself at Manolo -- a si...

Running

I got myself a new pair of Nike, according to the retail assistant, like, super latest exercise pants. My yet another attempt to start exercising, which a friend of mine didn't quite approve. "Considering your track record so far, you should just settle with a normal (reads cheaper) exercise gear, and please do not sign up for that gym just yet." "Ok, but these Nike stuff really make you fast, don't they?" I'm sure a lot of money and time have been spent to research and develop the latest of this sporting technology. Based on physics, of course. So, exercise pants -- check. Running shoes, an old pair that still looks new -- check. T-shirts, new -- check. What I need next is an iPod. I've never seen a serious runner run without an iPod, or something. Yesterday, I successfully made my four rounds (let's just assume I did run all the way) at KLCC Park, so I thought it was only fair that I (immediately after that) rewarded myself with ...

Raya

Gathering with my family is almost the only thing I always look forward to for raya. Almost -- because I also always look forward to eating all the food. The day before, 12/10. The long holiday weekend started early in the morning with me fetching my younger siblings. We had sahur at McDonald's, headed out to Johor at 5.30 and reached parents' house at around 9. My older sister had already arrived by then, and we* all went out for some last minute raya shopping. (*Twelve people, including three below 12-year-old. Plenty of drama was involved.) My sister made mee udang for berbuka, and my eldest sister arrived at 8. Everyone loves the pineapple tart that Jones recommended. She helped choose and order all my kuih raya this year. It's also my nephew Nirzdan 's 8th birthday today. My sister bought two big cakes for him us -- white chocolate and fresh kiwis + strawberries + peaches. Day 1, 13/10. I was so tired from washing and drying the plates and cups the night...

Movies

Image
I went to see a friend for coffee, and to borrow her DVD player and some movies last weekend. Within two days, I completed my DVD marathon. Finally, I watched Crash after always catching only the second half of it. I can watch Crash over and over again and still get heartbroken, just like how I feel watching Dead Man Walking, Wicker Park or Troy. Ha, when you should just be happy that there are men in short skirts in Troy. No, not Achilles -- Prince Hector, of course. And The Pursuit of Happyness made me feel like the biggest complainer on earth. If only I could get Chris Gardner's fighting spirit without turning into someone that I couldn't recognize. Ok, change of subject. So, I saw the 2007's Miss Teen USA too, you know, the one with the infamous South Carolina's answer (google it). I'm sorry, it WAS hilarious. But come on, it's not easy to maintain your composure when you know millions of eyes are on you, waiting for your hopefully brilliant ans...
