Survivor 37, Episode 7
"THERE'S GONNA BE TEARS SHED"
It’s the merge episode!
And it starts with the usual good mood of a merge. Everyone’s elated to reach the next stage of the game. They cheer and hug each other, eat, get drunk, and one person looks for an idol clue at the feast table (Gabby — didn’t find any).
But at least half of them are not allowed to be happy for too long. Soon, they begin assessing and reassessing alliances and relationships. Angelina is wary of Alec for flipping on Natalia, Carl tells Dan that Elizabeth is annoying, Mason-Dixon are checking on each other and giving out information, and Kara and Dan reunite — whispering and giggling in bed at night, which very much is under Elizabeth’s hawkish radar. So this makes Elizabeth want to break Kara-Dan up and target Dan. With two idols in his pocket, Dan almost stomps his feet at this unfairness. Meanwhile, Mike talks strategy with Alison and Alec, and they subsequently group with Christian, Gabby and Nick, apparently making up an alliance named Strike Force.
Then it’s time for the immunity challenge: swinging pendulum while balancing statue on a perch, which I don’t get. Unless your statue falls, there is no clear ending to this. Doesn’t "losing momentum" just mean you are slowed down, but you can always get it back up by moving the pendulum again? I don't know. The shorter story is, Alison wins the first individual immunity.
So, back at camp, Dan is set to vote for Elizabeth. Only that, Angelina still insists on targeting Christian to Dan's reluctance since Christian is one of his Brochachos. Angelina explains to us that she's using "intentional language", based on military tactics, to get the Goliaths on board with her plan. Also, I have a feeling Angelina is someone who wouldn't recognize a self-deprecating joke. Turns out, Dan isn't the only one. Alec doesn't want to vote for Christian either due to his friendship with the Davids. Well, the Davids, except for Elizabeth.
In another meeting without Angelina, the Goliaths decide that they are changing the target to Elizabeth, and they later tell Angelina this. Angelina has no choice but to agree, begrudgingly, because the final 13 vote is so important apparently. By this point, Dan and Angelina are already at 98% annoyed with each other. Before tribal, Angelina meets with Elizabeth secretly at the trail, almost tearing up telling Elizabeth that they are all voting for her now. Elizabeth tells this to Carl and Gabby to which Gabby suggests that they snitch on Angelina to the Goliaths.
Elizabeth takes this to tribal with fire. And everyone is quick to get on board when Alison says Angelina is just trying to manage her jury. There were crying (Gabby defending Elizabeth for trying to save her game, and Angelina pleading to her alliance, telling them that she is an authentic person) — and grinning too (Mike, Nick, many of us). But in the end, Elizabeth goes home in a 12-1 vote, which makes Gabby's crying feel like a jury management too, no?
