This Guy Doesn't Need Skype
For motivation, industry updates, and exercising my brain etc, I take short-term courses or day classes from time to time. So I take a few Communication classes at Company A. You know sometimes you meet a person who loves to tell dirty jokes, none of which are funny, every 20 seconds? The first class that I took at Company A two years ago was facilitated by, let's call him, Shouldn't Teach. Within the first 10 minutes I was in the class, I knew it was going to be a looooong one, and I hate that because I've always believed that if you want to get the knowledge right, you also have to like the teacher (and have a friend who writes the notes correctly, but that's not the point of this post). Recently, I took another class with Company A and... great... Shouldn't Teach was the facilitator. Here we go again, another round of dirty-jokes-are-so-funny-to-him. Then, during one of the sessions, he spoke about the seven chakras. (Trust me, we were still in a Business...
'70s
Sometimes I wonder how other people, probably my age, in other parts of the world live . I was camping in front of the TV last Saturday, doing some work, accompanied by songs from MTV and YouTube, from which I found a lot of great old live performance videos and songs, including this version of Cat Stevens' Wild World. It's hard to believe that the song was recorded in 1970. It doesn't really sound like an old song in this live acoustic. The lyrics sometimes make me stop and ask, wait, what does he mean by that, but the song kind of tugs at your heartstrings a little too. (Never thought that I'd like any version of Wild World before.) Now it makes me wonder, how my life would be like if I were a 20 or 30-something in 1971? (I even made what I imagined was a '70s Polyvore.) (While I was supposed to do some work .) Speaking of the '70s, although I haven't watched Lost season 6 yet, I think the ending scene is very sad. Confession
Travelling to me is like _____ to some people. Now you know my secret. It keeps my sanity. This is where I'm supposed to refrain from whining about not being able to travel for two years, right? Because there are much bigger problems in the world than that -- starvation, illiteracy, poverty, global warming, and, for God's sake, the whole of Gaza being blockaded, and also dry, frizzy hair? When this is over, I'm going to travel for a year! Image: Flickr, Brighton Beach Bathing Boxes , Melbourne, AU that I didn't visit.
Books
If you are a Twilight fan, I'm sure you've heard about the following releases: The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner This is very Stephenie Meyer: very Edward-Bella, Wanda-Ian, Wanda-Jared or Jared-Melanie. I don't know. It's a deja vu. But being a loyal follower of the series that you are, you are going to find this book and dedicate the next few hours forcing yourself reading it. Otherwise, you'll feel like your life isn't complete... and you'll walk into the theatre to watch Eclipse second-guessing yourself... *evil laugh*. Midnight Sun I read the partial draft of Midnight Sun a while ago. I have a feeling by the time we reach the second Breaking Dawn movie, we're going to have to read a number of other spinoffs. The Short Second Life of Freaky Fred? I bet Fred will meet a human girl named Kate while waiting for Bree in the Riley Park... and I'll surely read that too. There's probably a term to describe this condition. (Read The Short ...
Movies
The theme is survival. Alive It's a 1993 movie based on the true story of a Uruguayan rugby team that was involved in a plane crash in the Andes in early '70s. Stranded with no food and hope of being rescued for more than two months in extremely harsh conditions and weather (some were injured, and at one point they were hit by an avalanche), they had to resort to cannibalism -- eating their dead friends, not that they were killing each other -- to stay alive. They also had to find ways to stay warm and climb the mountains with no climbing equipment to get help. The cannibalism part may change the way you look at your steak dinner from now on, but this movie is about the power of the human spirit to stay alive. Many of the survivors went on to write books, become motivational speakers and speak about their experiences in the Andes. About the crash and rescue here . The Great Escape Also based on a true story, it's a 1963 movie about a mass escape by Allied POWs from ...
Life Goal #74
Yesterday afternoon, on my way meeting a client, I decided that I should learn a rap song. Ok, maybe not really a rap song but the rap verses in a song. We all love singing in the car, right? The one place we feel most talented, with good music and views to accompany our singing? And you know how most singers collaborate with rappers in their songs nowadays? It kind of halts your sing-along session because you can't catch a word this guy is saying. So how about this ? I love Ludacris -- rapping for Justin Bieber Mary J Blige and starring in one of my favourite movies, Crash? Check and check. I'm going to make it my life goal to memorize the song this week.
Sleep (3): Posted by the Alter Ego
It's 3AM and I'm on a roll. I usually function differently after 7(PM). I try to avoid making life-changing decisions after 7 because they're usually done very quickly. Sometimes, that's not very good. It may even go one step further after midnight. Sometimes it would be just my alter ego in charge. For example, when writing this (originally) long(er) post. In fact, I don't really want to stop at this point. There's also another topic that I want to write, but I have a feeling come morning all is well in the world again. Maybe you'll be lucky and don't have to read this (in full).
Nieces' Cats
My nieces' first cat was one that they found at their school. They brought the cat home, everyone adored the cat so much, and... they didn't get it spayed. So after a school break at our hometown, it got pregnant and gave birth to four kittens, all were named with girl names. Three of the kittens died. After a few months -- only recently, at a family BBQ -- we found out that the last kitten was actually a male. Bummer. Imagine three girls receiving the news that the girl cat they adored so much was actually a boy. The mother still didn't get spayed, got pregnant again and gave birth to six(!) baby cats yesterday. The girls asked me to name the new kittens, and if they are male, they are to be named after football players. First lesson about cats finally learned: not all cats are born female. "ML, Mommy nak hantar most of them to Pusat Jagaan." I'm sure they meant SPCA. "Kenapa?" " Mommy cakap nanti kita orang tak larat nak jaga semu...
The Web Designer
Photo by Element5 Digital on Unsplash , altered. When I was 18, I wore _____. Still one of my favourite perfumes till today. One day, someone asked what was this nice perfume I was wearing. I hesitated for one second and said something along the lines of "Body Shop" or "I forgot". Recently, at a salon, I was asked what I do for a living. "Mmm... I work from home..." She looked at me and waited for me to tell her what exactly I do for a living. "... I'm... a web designer."
