Survivor 30, Episode 6

"ODD WOMAN OUT" I. Can't. Pick. A. Winner. But let's go back a few days. The moment Dan's manties story is brought back, I start to worry if this is a theme. If we are to repeat conversations, it can only mean Rodney's mother is going to be brought up soon. I'm sure this woman is amazing and wonderful, but the last time Rodney mentioned her, he practically asked Joe to hit on her. And that's just the icing on the cake of Rodney's relationship with his mother and women. I don't think I can take any more of these. Rodney also can't find anything in common with Dan, Mike and Sierra because the three are from Maine, Texas and Utah. He especially can't be in an alliance with Mike because Mike goes to church on Sundays, is celibate, and doesn't drink and party. Rodney is into "girls, having fun, partying and not settling down". But he does "swear to God" and still loves Joaquin, although they are both like ...

Survivor 30, Episodes 4 & 5

"WINNER WINNER, CHICKEN DINNER" & "WE'RE FINALLY PLAYING SOME SURVIVOR" It's a two-hour tribe-switching and double elimination episode. And the casualties are Lindsey and Max. Let's go back a few days. People are arguing again at the Blue Collar camp. It's Rodney and his misogynistic comments vs Lindsey and Sierra. I'm not going to write the comments down. I can't even with Rodney. I don't understand how he's not embarrassed of himself. Dan and Mike do try to outdo Rodney, but Rodney is still ahead of the pack. Apparently, he's #imtombrady. At the first tribal, the vote goes 2-2-2 Lindsey-Sierra-Rodney. And on the revote, Mike, Dan and Kelly vote for Lindsey, sending Lindsey home and alienating Sierra from the tribe. Good lines: "I'm walking off this island because I hurt a man's ego. I'm not going to apologize, not to myself, not to anybody else, not today, not tomorrow, not ever. I ...

The Jinx

Image
Doing bullet points is probably not the best way to practice writing, but not having to connect one paragraph to the next makes my life so much easier. This blog is currently me and my thoughts about shows that I don't have anyone to discuss with. I don't see any point stressing out my brain with extra work. So, in bullet points, let's talk The Jinx: — What got me glued to The Jinx is the way it tells the story. Sometimes it tells you one event, then connects you to another. Other times, it lets you into a few events and pieces them together in the end, fluidly and with enough shock and surprise. It got me at Dorothy Ciner. The way the score is placed, the camera work timed, and details spanning three decades arranged and presented are also perfect. Following The Jinx is like unfolding a fairy tale, which is poor fairy tale being associated to this, because we know what the story is about. — But if you still don't know what it is about, search 'Robert Durst, ...

Survivor 30, Episode 3

"CRAZY IS AS CRAZY DOES" Dan, you DID NOT just say that. You are on Survivor, a game in which it's crucial you watch how you act and react. You are not even drunk, and you are a grown man. How did the conversation go from random to that ? Why would anybody say that in any situation at all? Coexisting is not an easy feat. Some people would insist a medal for it. At the Blue Collar camp, they argue about work ethics. But when Lindsey says, "Did your God come down here (and cook the rice)?", another line is officially crossed. I don't get these people. Now we also know that Rodney doesn't want to be Mike's Junior Deputy Firewood Bitch. But at the No Collar camp, Survivor finally looks like a vacation when Jenn and Hali go surfing. And of course Joe knows sign language. (Forget the fact that he practically blew two challenges in a row,) Joe knows everything and everyone likes Joe. Speaking of blowing challenges, No Collar loses immunity again ...

"IT WILL BE MY REVENGE" In this episode, Dan lost his manties, Nina cried because she was not invited to a skinny-dipping party, and Max and Shirin went naked. Shirin did it while cleaning their pot. She almost fell literally on her ass at one point. Speaking of being naked on TV, I wish Mike had stopped obsessing over firewood already. Is this a Survivor reference as well? Is he entrusted with the task of being Butch 2.0? Are we going to see the huge bonfire next week? If that's the case, I demand a Junior Deputy Firewood Bitch be named. And Joe 's edit should downplay his charm. He's not in the Miss Congeniality contest. I now feel for Vince a little. Maybe he just doesn't want to get diabetes from all of Joe's sweetness. Thank God, the men are finally given their shorts. I can't take their underwear anymore. Or in Dan's case, t-shirt, because the ocean has already taken care of the manties. Stop trying to figure out which t-shirt hole...

House of Cards, Season 3

Image
@ axelk Now that Breaking Bad and Lost have ended, national holidays to me are the days new seasons of Survivor, Homeland, The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones and House of Cards premiere. (You know, the major holidays. I have plenty of minor ones too.) So, Doug is alive *dancing ballerina emoji* and Frank peed on his father's grave. Doug Doug came home from the hospital, and we were entertained by the awkward interaction between him and his brother Gary, both hadn't seen each other in 10 years. Doug sent Gary home, assuring Gary that he was going to be ok because he had friends -- they sent him flowers and stocked his fridge with good food. I thought Doug was only a cold, calculating, has-no-real-friends, almost-mysterious man who was obsessed with his work and addicted to Frank. Turns out he's all that and also a psychopath. Doug, you didn't realize the accident was actually your golden ticket out to a life without the Underwoods, but no, you were not going to...

Survivor 30, Episode 1

"IT'S SURVIVOR WARFARE" Throw the confetti because my favourite holiday is here: the new season of Survivor premiere day. Worlds Apart: White Collar vs Blue Collar vs No Colla r divides the players into three tribes, apparently, based on their jobs and the way they view life. I'm going to blog the highlights of every episode in probably incoherent paragraphs on here because as much as I love the show -- I need to talk about it -- I'm also lazy. So, we start the season with my favourite line of the episode, which is from Vince Sly, the no collar, contractually free-spirited coconut vendor: "As a coconut vendor, I seek truth." He also lists "Life Coach" as his job. That explains his human, human question, sniffing, and long hug. My second favourite line is from Joaquin, the white collar who's going for the million dollars for the: "... fast money, loose women, lots of champagne." I love that they have to choose which...

Movies

Image
(Hello, blog!) So I managed to watch most of the movies from the 86th Oscars. Yes, 86th as in last year's. It was no surprise that Her was my favourite from the list, followed by Blue Jasmine . As for the rest, let's make it easy for me here: Philomena and Inside Llewyn Davis were good; Dallas Buyers Club, Captain Phillips and 12 Years a Slave were ok; and although I was also expecting more from it, so was American Hustle . I may be biased, but Michael Fassbender should get that Oscar. All Is Lost was more than ok and also depressing, which has always been my drug of choice. After I found out that the movie could also be a metaphor of anyone especially an old person dealing with the end of life, it got me into depression mode for an additional two days. I'm not sure if I'll go and find The Wolf of Wall Street and Nebraska for now, though. On the other hand, I'll never watch Gravity no matter what people say. My instinct of what movies I wouldn't...

Living Light: Clothes

Image
Photo by Priscilla Du Preez on Unsplash Yes, I'm about to blog about "owning less things", and you're about to roll your eyes with "Oh, here we go, another person announcing how she recently found a light , or fell into a fad, and how it changed her life." You're most probably right. _____ I am not rich (yet), so owning less things is not that hard to do*. But this has become a growing interest of mine: having a small and effective wardrobe, stripping away clothing items that haven't been worn for a long time, and let's admit it, will probably never be worn again no matter how hard I try to convince myself otherwise. (Example: five-year-old top last worn four years ago that I still keep because "I'm just waiting for the right time to wear it again. Plus, it's so preeety!") do not make me happy (anymore). are not really needed / don't have much function / are excess / you know, part of the preparation in cas...

Running

Image
So you know these days, if you don't post it on the internet, it didn't happen? Everyone, I participated in a running event. Before you try to undermine my accomplishment by saying "This must be the 5km-thing..." -- let me confirm it -- it was the 5km-thing. So, I'm not born to run or do any hard sports. It's not my personality. I just need to be in a good shape (relatively). But boredom and probably a little bit of lunacy made me sign up for a "fun" run several months ago. The last time I ran was probably in school. I wasn't really bad at it, I just hated it. It was tiring. The next step was getting a pair of running shoes because the sole of my last pair broke about two years ago. How's that possible, you ask? If you don't wear your shoes, they can just break. So I bought the cheapest non-ugly shoes that I could find two weeks before the run -- right at the point where I started to get nervous and ask myself, don't I have...
