Milk

I just saw James Franco talking about Milk on Jimmy Kimmel. Can't wait to see the movie and see Sean Penn turn from Matthew Poncelet into Harvey Milk. Not sure about Pineapple Express, though. Some comedy had left me feeling furious more than entertained before.

TV

As if the current shows are not enough, I'm excited about some old series as well. When they were showing Project Runway at 3PM a while ago, I had to be home at 3 every day for a couple of weeks. I'm positive I managed my time better during those weeks. See, TV is not all bad influence. Just found out that Star World is showing season 1 of Brothers & Sisters at 4 now (already mid-season). So if you are calling me at 3.55 nowadays asking my whereabouts and I say "meeting client" -- most probably I'm lying. In summary: My favourite character is Kevin with his funny, snarky comments. And I love Kitty Walker's work wardrobe and Kitty Walker for making politics sound bearable. You've also got to love the show for treating gay relationships just like it would straight ones. Ok, I'm off to get some sugar now: Kenny Rogers Roasters' vanilla muffin and hot, steaming coffee. All this sitting down takes up a lot of energy. Take care, TV. See you ...

I Know What You Are

Unlike a true book reader who insists that books are always better than their movie versions, I always find myself preferring the movies over the books. They're cheaper, they save time (three hours, the most, for you to get the whole story), they save trees, and they come with special effects, soundtracks and scores too, not to mention (literally) moving actors. This movie came out of nowhere, and now I'm on the bandwagon looking for the books. Shall save the trees some other time.

I Wish the Trees Were Back

I miss the jungle outside of my bedroom windows that separated my apartment from the rows of double-storey houses up the hill. They have now been replaced by a highway. My apartment is at the bottom of the hill. Now that the trees are gone, I feel like the row of houses is 10 times nearer than before. If I have friends staying in any of the houses, I could just wave and shout for them from my room. So there goes my precious privacy. I now have to be fully clothed while working walking around the house. The area I'm staying in used to be a very quiet yet very near to city centre suburb. Now the place is a lot busier. Noise makes me jumpy nowadays. Suddenly, I feel like so many people are screaming and shouting and quarrelling around here. Even the sound of a cab pulling over at 4 in the morning wakes me up. I hope sleep will be at least manageable when they open the highway. I was swamped with things today. So I don't know why I had to stop my car and tell my Arab teen ...

The Keyboard

Besides about five layers of dust, this keyboard only comes with the letters Q, W, Y, P, J, Z and part of K and X . A real challenge especially when you want to type your online tax password.

Book I Saw on TV

People say that everything Oprah touches turns to gold (maybe except for Tom Cruise and the sofa). Every time she mentions a book on her show, we know thousands will look for it. I've tried reading The New Earth but only managed a few pages -- those that I flipped through at the bookstore. Though I'll admit to making a few calls to locate the nearest store for Eat Pray Love after learning about it from the show (read my regret here ). At one point, I was kind of searching for The Pillars of the Earth too. Mitch Albom, author of Tuesdays with Morrie and The Five People You Meet in Heaven, was on Oprah today with his book (also a movie) For One More Day -- a story about a washed out salesman intending to end his life, granted a day to spend with his departed mother. Only when they started to discuss this question did it get my attention, "If you could spend one more day with someone you have loved and lost, what would you do?" "When it comes to the words p...

Closet

My favourite things to wear are dresses, flat sandals and clutches. I have to be hypnotized to wear high heels other than to work and formal events. I stopped wearing jeans about three years ago when I could no longer fit into my last favourite pair. Despite all the advice that 'don't hold on to any clothes that you can no longer fit into for more than whatever-years', I'm still positive about getting back to my old weight -- no one will ever tell me how long this has been going on. However, I've been lazy with pretty clothes this year, which, at this rate, I'll be wearing guni soon. So I sat in front of my cupboard this week (one of my secret favourite pastimes, deep stuff, I know), hoping to save whatever is left of my fashion choices. But everyone knows boosting your wardrobe is very rewarding. Happiness is guaranteed. And no, I don't plan to wear three inches of makeup and heels all day. I'm just afraid that every little thing that I neglect sn...

The Breakup

One of the best money advice I've ever received is "If you want to make a guaranteed 20% return in a year, get rid of your credit cards." Yeap, it's convenient. It's even necessary -- for online purchases, for example. No, it was FUN! But I guess owning only one card should already serve whatever the necessary purpose is. I'm saying goodbye to this one. Dear Card, Should there be any incident in the future where my Other (and only) Card, with only a fraction of your credit limit, fails me for whatever reason while I'm in need to pay for something like my ticket home from an impromptu trip to Sao Paulo, and the magic fountain won't spit cash -- then -- I'll be knocking my head really hard for dumping you. NO. STRIKE THAT. I'LL BE FINE*. Signed, X. *Sao Paulo sounds fine, I think.

The Bad Hair Day, the Good Hair Day

The bad hair day I had a breakfast meeting on Thursday at an open-air cafe, with the table that my client picked had a fan blowing from behind my seat. My hair was supposed to be this "messy-ponytail-flared-bangs" that day. I don't even know what it means actually, but it was not easy to do, I tell ya. Little did I know you can simply have a "just-messy-do" in three seconds. Just sit in a cafe with your back facing its giant a** boat fan! So my hair was really having fun, flying all over the place. And there I was, trying to appear composed while feeling like hiding under the table at the same time. The fun didn't stop there. Our food arrived. I wished I could open my mouth without my hair getting in the way. Now my hair knows why I'm so addicted to coffee. It tastes so good, isn't it, hair? I could only manage a bite or two while my client happily finished most of his food. I cannot have him waiting for me to finish mine. Then he got u...
