Survivor 37, Episode 11
"SO SMART THEY'RE DUMB"
The episode starts on the night of the Carl vote.
Nick isn't too happy with Christian and Gabby for the blindside — no prize for predicting this. While he reserves his actual reaction for confessionals, he reminds Christian how they've used three advantages to control the numbers, and now it's gone.
But we are on a schedule here, so we pause any plan for retaliation for now for the loved ones visit. Not much to report, except that
1) we all like Christian's girlfriend, Emily.
2) Angelina has to tell her mom about her rice sacrifice, which I suspect may have involved some probing on Survivor gods' part. And we cut to Alison's reaction to it:
3) Mike and his boyfriend Josh really, really don't like PDA, which is fine. Or, it's none of our business, really.
So, for reward, they are paired up to race, crawl and dig for a set of keys buried in the sand to release a pair of balls and land them on an overhead perch. And the pair of Angelina and Nick, who initially was trailing behind, wins a barbecue lunch with their loved ones. They pick Davie and Mike to join them.
Mike, Nick and Angelina seem to be on the same page, telling their loved ones that this is their choice of final four. Davie nods along but tells us in confessionals that he realizes he's a little bit of an outsider to this group — that the other three have been together for quite a while since the Jabeni days.
Back at camp, does the editing kind of... slyly insinuate something that is not there, that Gabby is jealous of... Christian and Emily? Ugh, facepalm. So apparently Gabby doesn't like that Christian is a comforter, and she doesn't want to be lulled into it and wants to start building her own resume instead. So she starts talking to Alison and Kara about voting out Christian.
For immunity, the players have to balance a pole connected to a ball and a bucket of water above their heads while standing on a narrow perch, one foot in front of the other, changed in position at certain intervals. And Kara, who looks pretty solid throughout the entire challenge, wins.
Back at camp, Gabby continues with her plan to blindside Christian and talks to Nick and Davie about it. It's an easy decision for Nick, so he agrees. He proceeds to tell Mike and Angelina to vote for Gabby, in case Christian plays his idol.
But Davie is reluctant to get on board. Although he has been blindsided twice by Christian, he tells us that he's not taking it personally. So he goes to warn Christian about Gabby. Christian realizes that he needs more than just an idol to save himself and move forward, so he tries to mend his relationship with Nick. Nick plays along and tells Christian that he's good with voting out Alison, but he tells us that he doesn't trust Christian anymore. Basically, Mason-Dixon is gone now.
At tribal, they talk about the fallout from the last blindside. Nick tells Jeff that he's willing to mend relationships, and Gabby talks about no longer making moves that need to be approved by others first. Then they all talk about threat levels or something and go to vote.
When Jeff calls for idols, Christian raises his hand and looks around to gauge the room in the usual Christian-way. Gabby freezes her face so hard, but Davie's warning was too huge, and it would be foolish for Christian to just ignore it, so he plays his idol.
And the vote goes — seven to Christian all negated, one to Alison, and two to Gabby, sending her home.
Basically, the Goliaths have been cracking open bags of popcorn for two tribals now, watching the Davids eat each other up too soon. Also, what a twist to the Christian-Gabby friendship.
