Survivor 37, Episode 4
“TIME TO BRING ABOUT THE CHARMPOCALYPSE”
This is a FUN episode!
But first, Bi has to quit because she injured her knee at the last challenge and she’s worried of a further damage that will affect her career. In the words of Nick Wilson, "It's ok, Bi."
So we are swapping into three tribes, namely Vuku, Jabeni and Tiva, each with three former Goliaths and two former Davids. Tribe-less Carl is sent to exile island and will join the losing tribe after the next tribal.
We end up with these divisions because of the two trays, right? That Jeff hands one tray to each tribe with a specific number of colours already allocated, including that blank buff for Carl? Which means zero chance for any of the new tribes to have former Davids as the majority? I.e. there is absolutely no hiding here that the Davids just got screwed?
So this is where we stand with the new tribes:
VUKU — Alec, Kara, Natalia, Davie, Elizabeth
Elizabeth and Kara seem to quickly bond, over horses. I think. And this doesn't sit well with Natalia, who eyes the two new friends like a hawk. File this for later.
TRIBE-LESS Carl finds an advantage at exile island in the form of an idol nullifier.
JABENI — Angelina, Mike, Natalie, Lyrsa, Nick
Mike thinks his new tribe is the most hopeless of all three, and they are so going to a lot of tribals in the next several days. Lol. What doesn’t change is Natalie appointing herself the queen again and barking orders again.
“Is that how it has been?” Nick asks Angelina.
“Yeap. — And this is the mellow version.”
Natalie’s bossing around is music to Nick's ears. It's the crack that he's hoping for, so he gets into an alliance with Mike and names it the Rockstars alliance.
My god. I can’t with the air guitar.
But this is the thing about Nick. His alliance agreements are always with him grinning happily. It's never in a serious, tense moment. As much as we'd probably think this naming thing is silly, I guess it is also kind of endearing? I don't know.
TIVA — Alison, Dan, John, Christian, Gabby
At Tiva, Christian charmingly bro-friends John and Dan, making Gabby feel left behind, so of course this makes her cry. But Christian hugs her and reassures her that they are doing fine. Aww, I don't care, at this moment I just want a Christian as my best friend. I mean, it's kind of an eye-rolling moment too — but still, best friends!
So we get to the immunity plus reward challenge with the reward being baskets of brownies, pastries and coffee, which legit is making me hungry.
The challenge requires the tribes to retrieve a ball bag through an obstacle course and manoeuvre the ball through a table maze, with everyone's blindfolded except for the caller (Kara, Angelina, Gabby). Gabby does a great job as a caller, and Tiva works well as a team, winning them the first immunity and the reward. Angelina, on the other hand, struggles with the first part of the challenge, which is a must-watch because not only they go off the course at one point, this challenge also involves her giving instructions to Natalie. So Jabeni is the last to complete the first part but, in a close finish, manages to catch up at the table maze, winning them the second immunity.
So Jeff has got nothing for Vuku.
Back at camp, it’s almost certain that a former David is going home. But Elizabeth is not giving up yet, so she goes to Alec and tells him to make a move and think about his resume. Meanwhile, Natalia tells Davie to go with the former Goliaths and vote for Elizabeth if he still wants a future in the game. Yeah, not surprised. Natalia's edit these four episodes isn't exactly glowing. Her edit is basically of a cool kid at the cool kids' table who thinks anyone who doesn't fit in or adore her is just her minion. Or, if Natalie is a queen, Natalia's definitely a princess. Alec doesn't like that Natalia is bossy and doesn’t trust him. And that gives Davie enough opening to float Natalia's name to Alec.
At tribal, the focus is on Elizabeth and Davie. They both state their case on why they should get to stay, while Natalia says that she’s excited to play and experience it all, and will be happy if she goes out guns blazing tonight. Hold that thought.
In the middle of tribal, Alec gets up to whisper to Elizabeth, and it starts to make Natalia nervous. The whisper train continues, and everyone whispers to everyone except to Davie. In the end, it was probably just a charade because Alec, Elizabeth and Davie vote Natalia out.
“Sorry,” Alec says. Huge chance he doesn’t mean it.
“Don’t be sorry. Shut up.”
...
“Why are you smiling?! Oh my god, I can't handle you right now,” she adds, turning to Alec before leaving tribal.
That last 20 seconds was great.
