Survivor 33, Episode 6
"THE TRUTH WORKS WELL"
The episode starts with Jay's winner's edit. He breaks into tears, talking about his family and how he's going to win Survivor to help them, and the appropriate sombre music follows. Something is about to go right for him in a few minutes. So, yeap, five seconds later he finds the Ikabula idol, and according to him, the Survivor theme song is bursting immediately in the background right now.
But this week is Figgy's episode. If anyone deserves an orchestra, it's Figgy. Everywhere she goes, bright light and colourful sparkles should glowingly trail in her path. Figgy does everything she can to get voted out, but when you have a partner like Taylor, it's not a hard thing to do.
First, at the reward challenge, as the popular cool kid, she has to remind everyone that she and Michelle are best friends, in case anybody couldn't figure it out, or worse, forgets about it. She loves Zeke too, though. It's the polite thing to do. Michelle agrees with Figgy because "truth works well in Survivor". Oh Michelle, I'll let that one pass because we already have more than enough material with Figgy this week.
Back at camp, with plenty of giggles, Figgy confesses to Jessica and Ken that she and Taylor are totally figtayls, and they have been figtayling secretly behind their backs all this while. Imagine the shock in Jessica and Ken's faces.
How do two people who are not only kissing each other, but were also on the opposite side of Adam just three votes ago, think they are appealing to Adam?
Good line:
"Maybe Adam's double-crossing us, and he's way smarter than we think he is. Unlikely. But maybe." ~ Taylor.
Err, no, you FIG-TAYLS. YOU are in NO position to assess other people's intelligence.
At tribal, after telling everyone that she has forgiven Adam for voting for her while touching his head as if he is her cat, and also after she's almost ready to get married on set, Figgy announces that she and Taylor are still going "to be strategic" in every move they make. There are so many things wrong in that announcement. Let's point out just two: 1) you don't announce you are making strategic moves, if you ever get to make any 2) imagine the horror in Taylor's face being called "strategic".
Just to seal Figgy's ticket out, Taylor threatens Adam: if he dares to betray figtayls, the rest of the Millennials are going to avenge them. And Figgy deliciously laughs. Oh, to be oblivious and confident. Just like truths, threats work well on Survivor.
Let's talk about Adam for a bit. We the viewers love his vote for Figgy, but the vote does not really flip his position on the bottom. He's possibly on the bottom with the Millennials even more now, and he's not at the top with the Gen Xers either. Interestingly, Ken invites Adam to join him, Jessica and David! David as in their friend, not Adam's. Adam has never met David. David who they have no idea when they'll see again. David who is in another camp, possibly another country, making friends with other people.
Michaela pulled an Ozzy at the immunity challenge. No, not the great-at-challenge thing. The other thing. On top of that, just like other typical tunnelled-vision players before her, she reminds the Gen Xers of where exactly they stand in the game at this moment: right on the bottom, because the Millennials, all nine of them, are sticking together. It's always a charming thing to bark orders, shush people and alienate them. Make that the third thing that works well on Survivor.
