Survivor 31, Episode 3
"WE GOT A RAT"
So, Shirin was voted out last episode. I'm more interested in how she made her (by now, I assume) millions in real life actually. She probably made most of them from Google and Yahoo, but how? Help me do the same, Shirin. What do I need to do? Create calendar? Go to work?
Surprisingly, I still haven't hated Terry yet. I keep waiting for him to act like a tribe dad, but he hasn't done that yet. Terry's a version of a robot. But the fact that he realizes he's one and he's just trying to get out of his comfort zone sounds acceptable to me. Extra point for that cauldron stirring.
Moving on, Mean Probst gathers everyone and splits the two tribes into three. While Savage isn't too excited to start from scratch at the new Angkor, Spencer and connection move on to another level: Survivor God contacts him and tells him that he deserves a new lease of life. He's now at Bayon with Jeremy, Stephen, Kelly, Kimmi and Monica.
Quick summary after the split:
– At Angkor -- of course, the tribe that's so going to lose the next challenge -- Tasha, down in numbers, refuses to lie down and just die 👏🏼.
– It looks like wherever Kass goes, the Love Tribe (which is code for Joe and his purple undies) goes. So Ta Keo is now the new Love Tribe, with a tiny glitch: Kelley is kicking Terry under the bus. In confessional, she shows us how she does this.
– At Bayon, Stephen is happy that he's no longer in Camp Macho and still cannot open a coconut. And Spencer... ok, this is strange, why does Spencer think he needs to talk about feelings?
Let's discuss Spencer. Let's sort this out because this is all getting confusing. Unlike Terry, Spencer is an emotional robot. Just like when he couldn't hide his awkwardness around little monsters, he couldn't hide his frustration when his carefully folded pants got messed up by a Ninja; or when the same Ninja stole his idol clue; or when he lost a group challenge after carrying the whole team by himself; or when Kass flipped, putting him back on the bottom. All that and him being the underdog who refused to give up made him so enjoyable to watch (sorry) in his first season. Ok, not really sorry, few things are more entertaining than that scene where he practiced catching water with his Luzon tribemates.
So, Spencer's problem is not feelings (I have two, sometimes three, degrees in Psychology). It's, according to him, connecting. However, when he starts talking about it in the way he does, thinking that'll help fix it... ugh, I give up. I can't point it out, I myself have already had this connecting issue for a long time. Or maybe, as a viewer, I feel that the version of Spencer who's "not able to connect" is just fine.
Producers, stop asking Spencer to talk about feelings.
On the other hand, for Jeremy, his exchange with Spencer this episode and admission of pain missing Val last episode make us feel drawn to him a little more. Well, only Jeremy can whine "Why are you so happy?!" and "These people are so dumb!" and still come out likeable.
At Angkor, it rains, and Abi is offended because Peih-Gee thinks Abi is too dry.
Back at Bayon, the original Bayons look for the idol "as a group", and it's Jeremy who finds the clue, keeps it to himself and smoothly grabs the idol during the challenge. Stephen's winner's edit is fading and fading by the minute.
Then apparently there was an episode of meltdown involving mainly Varner and Tasha after the challenge ended ie what was shown is only a tiny bit of it. The main takeaway is, Tasha calls Varner a rat, and this put the wheels in motion for Savage and Tasha to break the old Ta Keos.
It's the circle that is amazing.
First, the target is on Varner. Savage talks to Peih-Gee and Woo and asks them to go with him and Tasha to vote Varner out. Tasha also talks to Abi to do the same.
Next, Abi tells Peih-Gee and Woo she's voting with Savage and Tasha because she's on the bottom with the old Ta Keos.
This pisses Peih-Gee off, so she goes to Savage and Tasha, telling them that she's voting for Abi.
Savage runs to Abi with this info, and Abi runs to Varner, asking him to vote for Peih-Gee. Then it's done. Peih-Gee is out.
Along the way, Abi also describes Varner as "unpredictable" and says Peih-Gee "talks too much and needs to take a chill pill".
Great line:
